Q: What is the difference between animal massage and petting?
A: Animal massage is a focused and deliberate technique. Petting is also great for your animal and you can certainly do it yourself. However, massage is the practise of applying structural pressure, tension, motion and vibration to the soft tissue of the body, including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, joints and lymphatic vessels. Massage is a form af therapy which can be applied to parts of the body or successively to the whole body, to heal an injury, relieve psychlogical stress, manage pain, improve circulation, generally to promote well being on both physical and emotional level.
Q: Are there any side effects?
A: Massage and accupressure have no adverse medical side effects.
Q: Does massage only benefit older animals?
A: Certainly not. Massage is great for all ages. Our patients include animals from a wide range of physical conditions and backgrounds.
Q: When is massage therapy not recommended?
A: Animals with open wounds or blisters, with recent fractures, or animals with fever should not be massaged.
